BLOG - The last word on a bittersweet season

Hello everyone! There was good news and bad news that could be taken from the weekend. The bad news is we received zero outside help from other teams so we did not reach the playoffs. We only needed one result from six games to go our way to reach the playoffs and none of them played out like we hoped. The good news is we won our last game in memorable fashion beating Robert Morris 1-0 in OT; it was a great way for me and my fellow classmates to go out. Fittingly, senior Kingsley McLeod (Rocky Mount, N.C./Rocky Mount) scored the game-winner, heading home a cross from another senior David Butler (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield). I cannot say enough about these two guys and the impact they have had on the program since I have arrived. Darius Motazed (North Vancouver, Canada/Sentinel Secondary), also playing in his last game recorded his sixth straight shutout and set the school record for shutouts in a season with nine.

I am so proud of this team, more so than any other team I have ever been a part of, including the team that went to the championship last season. We showed so much determination and resolve over the season and refused to ever give up. We deserved a better outcome.

The season ends in bittersweet fashion. I leave the season thinking about what could have been. I firmly believe we are the best team in conference. One bad weekend in Connecticut haunted us for the entire season and is the sole reason why we are not playing next week. The rest of the NEC is thankful we are not there because we are the hottest team in conference, carrying a six game unbeaten streak. In that span, we have gone 600 minutes without conceding a goal. This was a championship team with a championship mentality; it is unfortunate we did not have the chance to control our destiny because I know we would have prevailed. Hopefully, the returning guys realize the importance of getting off to a fast start, so they don't make the same mistake we did next year.

I want to thank everyone involved with the program and all the supporters who supported us for my four years here. This year we went 8-1 at home, which is a testament to everyone who showed up and fueled us with their energy. I made so many memories over my 4 years and am appreciative of everyone involved who made them possible. When I recollect over my college experiences, my best memories will be on the soccer field with my teammates. The soccer team is my family. I forged relationships with my teammates that will last a lifetime. Thank you to all of my former teammates who were not along for the ride this year. Thank you to all of the underclassmen who made my senior year a memorable one. Most of all thank you to my classmates. We went through a lot of ups and downs together, but we are all stronger for sticking out the tough times. I love you guys.

I had a lot of fun this year writing this blog. I hope you all enjoyed it. Thanks again to everyone who rode along with us throughout the season. We had a great season and finished on a high note. Bigger and brighter things lie ahead for the program. I will be watching. Go Flash!
