Conwell ties school mark as Flash rout Bison

LORETTO, Pa. (March 13, 2011) – The Saint Francis lacrosse team wasted little time impressing the hearty souls who turned out for Sunday afternoon's home opener against Howard. The Red Flash jumped out to a 9-0 lead 16 minutes into the contest en route to a 19-3 drubbing of the Bison at frigid DeGol Field.

Saint Francis (2-4) recorded the program's second-highest single-game goal total (19) and its second-largest margin of victory (16) in the win. Both marks were set in a 20-3 win over Howard in 2009.

On an individual level, sophomore Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) tied the school record for goals in a game with six to lead SFU's six multiple goal scorers.

Catherine Helming (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) tallied four goals, Sheri Fort (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp) notched three, while Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) and Kara Ledgerwood (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) each nabbed a pair.

Conwell, Ledgerwood and Simmons all added a pair of assists to help spark the offense.

Down by nine, Howard broke into the scoring column on a Desiree Cox goal at the 13:55 mark of the first half. Saint Francis answered by scoring the game's next seven goals to lay any doubt of the outcome to rest.

Saint Francis held a 31-to-16 edge in shots and a 13-to-5 advantage in draw controls.

Goalie Danielle Pokusa (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) earned the win with a nine-save outing.

SFU returns to action on Tuesday when it visits Niagara for a 4 p.m. contest.
