Simmons' five spot not enough to hold off Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (April 10, 2011) – Wagner's Sam Morin scored the game-winning goal with 21 seconds remaining to cap a furious rally as the Seahawks outlasted the Red Flash, 12-11, on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Seahawks break a three-game slide and improve to 3-9 overall, 2-3 in the Northeast Conference while the Red Flash fall to 4-9 on the season, 1-5 in conference play.

Saint Francis found itself in an early 2-0 hole but scored the next three goals to take a one-goal lead at the 12:40 mark. Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) racked up four scores in the first half to help the Red Flash to a 6-5 halftime lead.

Catherine Helming (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) scored just over a minute into the second half to spark a 4-to-2 that gave SFU a 10-7 lead with 8:34 to play.

The Seahawks scored five of the game's final six goals to erase its deficit and earn the win.

Saint Francis' Simmons scored a game-high five goals to tie a season-high with Kara Ledgerwood (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua), Helming and Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) each chipping in a pair.

Carolyn Clark led Wagner with four goals while O'Connor added three tallies.

Wagner out-shot Saint Francis 36-25 and led in ground balls 25-23. The Red Flash held a narrow 14-11 edge in draw controls. Much of the Seahawks' offensive success came via a 5-of-10 output on free position shots. The Red Flash were 1-of-5 on free position shots.

The Red Flash return to action on Friday as they welcome Monmouth to kickoff a season-long four-game homestand. The opening draw is slated for 4 p.m.
