Men's soccer scores late to earn final exhibition win

Red Flash conclude preseason action

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (Aug. 20, 2011) – The Saint Francis men's soccer team wrapped up the exhibition portion of its schedule with a 1-0 victory over Marist.

An evenly matched game between both teams remained scoreless until the 83rd minute when senior David Butler (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) notched his second goal of the preseason, with an assist from freshman Mitch Kavlick (Erie, Pa./Erie McDowell).

Both the Red Flash and Red Foxes tallied six shots each throughout the game, with Butler leading the charge for SFU by recording three. Head coach Michael Casper divided time in net between three of his goalkeepers with junior Thomas McWilliams (Mermaid Waters, Australia/Palm Beach Currumbin) getting the start and picking up his second preseason win. McWilliams and junior Daniel Valcicak (Herndon, Va./Gonzaga College) each made one save on the day.

The Red Flash end the exhibition season with a 2-0 record and open regular season action on the road Aug. 26 when they travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a bout with North Carolina State.
