Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C. (Aug. 26, 2011)
– The Saint Francis University men's soccer team kicked off the regular season with a 0-0 double overtime tie at North Carolina State.

The start of the game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. was delayed for over an hour due to lightning threatening in the area. When the game did get underway, neither team was able to connect and put one past the opposing goalkeeper.

“I am very proud of our team today,” head coach Michael Casper said. “We battled hard and got a shutout against a very good team. We had good opportunities to score we just didn't take our chances. We will build on this and get ready for Monday.”

The Red Flash (0-0-1) found themselves to be on the short end in the majority of statistical categories throughout the match, including being outshot by the Wolfpack (0-0-1) by a 14-5 margin and in corner kicks 11-2 in favor of N.C. State.

Junior Wayne Tiller (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) posted the most shots among Saint Francis players, sending out three. Senior Darius Motazed (North Vancouver, Canada/Sentinel Secondary) and junior Thomas McWilliams (Mermaid Waters, Australia/Palm Beach Currumbin) split time in net, with Motazed recording five saves, logging the higher number of minutes, 65:00, and adding the tie to his record.

SFU travels back to Loretto to open the home portion of the regular schedule Monday afternoon when they face in-state rival Pittsburgh at 4 p.m.
