LORETTO, Pa. (August 26, 2011)
– Saint Francis forward Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) took a feed from Beatriz Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) to score her second goal of the game and lift the Red Flash women's soccer team to a 3-2 overtime win against Canisius at the Stokes Soccerplex on Friday.

McKibben's game-winner upped the Flash to 1-2 on the young season while the visiting Golden Griffins fell to 0-2.

“It's good to finally see this team playing together,” said SFU head coach Brenda van Stralen. “There's still a lot of work to do, but I'm proud of our players for pushing through. Now we've got to get ready for Niagara on Sunday.”

Niagara fell to Robert Morris, 5-1, earlier on Friday afternoon.

Canisius got off to a hot start against the Red Flash, taking an early 1-0 lead on a Kelly Reinwald goal 8:20 into the contest. Just over two minutes later, the Griffins' Jenny Griffin put the visitors up by two with a score off of a Reinwald corner.

The Red Flash got on the board in the 36th minute when McKibben tapped in a corner from Briana Tata (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute). Despite out-shooting the Griffins 14 to 14 in the opening period, Saint Francis entered the intermission with a one-goal deficit.

In the second half, SFU continued to get solid offensive opportunities and finally tied up the contest on a Bea Maros de Carvalho goal with an assist from McKibben. The 55th-minute marker would be the last in regulation.

Saint Francis out-shot Canisius 25 to 11 on the afternoon, including 13 on goal. McKibben lead the way with 11 shots, six of which were on goal. Bea Maros de Carvalho put three of her four shots on goal, while racking up three points. SFU also held a 6-to-2 edge in corner kicks.

Flash goalkeeper Brianna Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) made five saves on the day to earn the win.
