LORETTO, Pa. (August 28, 2011) – Senior midfielder
Traci Flick (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and junior forward
Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) teamed up to power the Saint Francis offense as the Red Flash downed Niagara, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Stokes Soccerplex.
After a scoreless first half, Flick staked Saint Francis (2-2-0) to a 1-0 lead at the 59:34 mark by burying a pass from McKibben. Flick's second score of the 2011 campaign ended a stretch of near-misses by the Flash attack, as SFU had built up a 6-to-1 advantage in shots in the half.
Nine minutes later McKibben found the back of the net for her fourth tally of the season and her third of the weekend. Flick assisted on the goal.
Through the game's first 45 minutes, the Flash and Purple Eagles turned in nearly identical statistics. Niagara (0-2-0) out-shot Saint Francis 7 to 6, with both teams putting four of those on goal. SFU goalkeeper
Brianna Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) and the Purple Eagles tandem of Gabrielle Wilson and Mariah Hoy both made four stops.
Beatriz Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) led Saint Francis with four shots, three of where we on goal. The Flash held a 15-to-12 edge in shots and nearly doubled up the Purple Eagles in shots on goal, 9-5.
Butcher ended up with five saves for the second game in a row.
The Flash now embark on a month-long road trip that will get under way on Friday, Sept. 2 with a 4 p.m. match at Saint Peter's.
