BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 10, 2011) – The Saint Francis University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 shutout loss at the hands of the Loyola Greyhounds Saturday night, and fell to 2-2-1 on the year.
“I thought we did a lot of good things tonight,” head coach
Michael Casper said. “Sometimes soccer can be such a tough sport when you play well enough to win but don't get the result you want. We have to get better in the final third and with finishing to turn these kinds of games our way. We will get back to work and make sure next time this kind of game comes our way.”
A defensive struggle for most of the contest, Loyola (2-1-1) tallied the game winning goal late in the contest in the 85th minute. Greyhound forward Vegard Vinje headed a throw in from midfielder Geaton Caltabiano over the reach of Red Flash starting goalkeeper
Darius Motazed (North Vancouver, Canada/Sentinel Secondary) to give Loyola the lead with just under five minutes remaining.
Saint Francis outshot the Greyhounds 13-11 in the match, putting three of those shots on net. Senior
Kingsley McLeod (Rocky Mount, N.C./Rocky Mount) and junior
Makala Hairston (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College) paced the Red Flash by posting three shots apiece. Motazed made two saves in the game.
The Red Flash will have to regroup quickly as they head to nearby University Park, Pa. Wednesday night Sept. 14 to battle 19th-ranked Penn State at 7 p.m.
