LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2011)
– The Saint Francis University men's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 shutout win over visiting St. Bonaventure Sunday afternoon at the Stokes Soccerplex.

“This is a great result for our team,” head coach Michael Casper said. “To score four goals and keep a clean sheet is very encouraging. It was nice to be back home in front of our family and friends. We are so appreciative of all of the support we got. Hopefully we can have a good week of training and get ready for next Sunday.”

The Red Flash were without the services of junior David Butler (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield), as he received a red card in the team's last game against Penn State, forcing him to sit out of today's contest. St. Bonaventure's head coach was also forced to sit out, as he received a red card in SBU's match with Canisius Friday evening.

At the 12:17 mark of the first half, forward Kingsley McLeod (Rocky Mount, N.C./Rocky Mount) put the Flash up early and notched his second goal of the season when he took a pass from Wayne Tiller (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) and Makala Hairston (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College) that skipped through the legs of the St. Bonaventure defender for McLeod to chip a shot off the hands of the Bonnies goalkeeper.

Nearly five minutes later, last week's Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week Pablo Medina (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academies) sent a corner kick onto the head of defender Tamas Maffey-Stumpe (Cairns, Queensland, Australia/Mossman State) who pushed the attempt just high of the crossbar. Medina then set up for a second corner kick, and connected again with the head of Maffey-Stumpe who placed his header in the back left corner of the net to put the Flash up 2-0. The goal was Maffey-Stumpe's first goal of the season and Saint Francis took the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the majority of the second half remained scoreless until Maffey-Stumpe registered his second goal of the game on a scrap in front of the St. Bonaventure net. Tiller was credited with another assist, his second of the match.

Wasting no time to add to their lead, freshman Mitch Kavlick (Erie, Pa./Erie McDowell) crossed a pass over from the left side of the field to Medina who lobbed a shot into the back of a wide open right side of the cage. This gave SFU a commanding four goals to none lead with under 12 minutes left in the game. The fourth goal from Medina is his first collegiate tally.

The Red Flash held the advantage over the Bonnies in shots, outshooting them by a 17-12 margin. Both teams placed five of its shots on goal. A high majority of Saint Francis' chances in the match were solid opportunities to pad its lead. St. Bonaventure received seven corner kicks to SFU's six. Senior Darius Motazed (North Vancouver, Canada/Sentinel Secondary) got the start, win and shutout for the Flash, making five saves in the contest.

Saint Francis will wrap up non-conference action next Sunday Sept. 25 when Canisius comes to town for a 3 p.m. start time.
