BOX SCORE
LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 25, 2011) – Sophomore midfielder
Stephanie Boulter (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) scored her second goal of the season to lift the Saint Francis University women's soccer team past Robert Morris, 1-0, at the Stokes Soccerplex on Sunday afternoon.
With the victory, the Red Flash improved to 5-4-0, while the Colonials fell to 6-4-1. The win not only gave SFU a solid, 1-0, start in Northeast Conference play, but it also derailed what has been a strong early season for Robert Morris.
Both teams battled to a scoreless in the first half with RMU out-shooting the Flash 6-to-3. Shots on goal, however, were even at two apiece.
After the intermission, it took Boulter less than nine minutes to score the eventual game-winner. Boulter took a long feed from midfield before creating space and firing from five yards out on the right side. Her shot traveled across the face of the goal – and just out of the reach of Colonial goalkeeper Jessica Olin – before finding the upper left corner of the net.
Robert Morris got off eight shots in the second half to SFU's five but only three required work from Flash goalkeeper
Brianna Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow). Butcher finished the day with six saves and her third shutout of the season.
Junior forward
Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) led both teams with five shots.
Saint Francis returns to action on Friday when it welcomes Sacred Heart (5-2-3, 1-0-1 NEC) for a 1 p.m. contest. The Pioneers played Central Conn. State to a 2-2 2OT tie on Sunday.
