SFU Downs Siena on the Road, 5-1

BOX SCORE LOUDENVILLE, NY (Oct. 12, 2012) – The Saint Francis University field hockey team won its third-consecutive game Friday with a, 5-1, victory on the road against Northeast Conference rival Siena.

The Red Flash (8-4, 2-0) continued their hot start and kept the Saints (0-10, 0-2) winless with a strong second half. Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) tied the SFU career goals record with her 10th tally of the season but the Flash added four second half goals to secure the win. Jocelyn Scillia (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) picked up a pair of goals, Kellie Mason (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) added a pair of assists and Kate Vitali (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) made five saves in the cage as SFU moved to 2-0 in NEC play.

"This was a hard fought team win," head field hockey coach Stacey Bean said. "Siena is always tough to play on their home field and today was no exception. It was a back and forth game throughout."

Pellman wasted little time tying the Saint Francis career goal record with a tally just 26 seconds into the contest. Mason set the play up with a pass down the middle of the field finding the sophomore forward for her 10th goal of the season and the 22nd of her career. The defenses tighted up and did not allow another first half goal with Vitali making two first half saves and Beth Meyers making three stops in the cage for the Saints.

SFU picked up a quick goal to start the second half with Scillia finding the net less than two and half minutes after the intermission. After a pile up in front of the cage it was Mason, who gain possession and found Scillia for her second goal of the season. Abby Webb (Easton, Md./Saints Peter & Paul) picked up her second goal of the season at the 50:49 mark and gave the Flash a three goal advantage. Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) moved SFU four-goals clear of the Saints with her sixth goal of the season at the 56:00 minute mark. The Saints responded by scoring just 57 seconds after the goal by Adamshick to make it a 4-1 SFU lead but the Flash remained in control. Scillia closed scoring in the contest with her second tally of the match with less than five minutes left in regulation to seal the win for SFU. Nikki Snyder (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) picked up the assist for the Flash.

The Red Flash returns to action Sunday when SFU travel to conference rival Bryant for a 1 p.m. start.
