Fourth place finish concludes men’s golf fall season

CHATHAM, N.J. (Oct. 22, 2012) – Using four rounds of 75 or better in Monday's final round at the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate, the Saint Francis University men's golf team took home fourth place in the field of 11.
 
The Red Flash improved its team score from the opening round by 12 strokes to finish with a 598 (305-293) for the tournament. The 293 from Monday's final round was the second lowest team round for SFU this fall. In its six tournaments this fall season, Saint Francis recorded top-five team finishes in all events. Saint Peter's won the intercollegiate with a 587 (295-292) final score. LIU Brooklyn captured runner-up honors while Temple took home third place.
 
Edward Maruca (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) shot the best two rounds of his young collegiate career, posting a 73-74 Sunday and Monday to earn a tie for seventh place with a 147 final score. Maruca's seventh place showing was the only top-10 finish for the Red Flash in the tournament. Kevin Fawcett (London, Ontario, Canada/Oakridge Secondary) improved his first round score of 78 to a second round even par 71 Monday to earn a tie for 12th in the field of 60 players.
 
James Ferguson (Altoona, Pa./Tyrone) also finished his tournament play in a tie for 12th after he carded a two-day 149 (74-75). Jeff Chastel (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) enjoyed a bump in his performance as well from Sunday's first round after he fired a 73 on day two for a total score of 154 (81-73) and a tie for 24th. Shane Crampton (London, Ontario, Canada/Saunders Secondary) rounded out the Flash golfers in a tie for 41st after shooting a collective score of 161 (80-81).
 
Obediah Ayton of LIU Brooklyn picked up individual medalist honors by shooting an even par 142 (71-71) for the tournament.
 
Saint Francis will break now for the winter months and get their championship season underway in the spring of 2013.
