BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2012) – Playing in its first home game since Sept. 9, the Saint Francis University men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 Northeast Conference shutout loss Friday afternoon at the hands of Central Connecticut State.
CCSU (4-5-1, 2-0-0 NEC) controlled possession in the Red Flash (4-5-2, 2-1-0 NEC) end for most of the contest, despite the close proximity in shots. The Blue Devils scored its first goal of the match in the 33
rd minute when Stephen Walmsley chipped in a pass in front of the net from Thomas Obasi.
Arguably the best scoring chance for the Red Flash came off the foot of junior
Tobi Iguade (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) in the 40
th minute of the first half. Iguade, with Blue Devil defenders around him, fired a left-footed strike hard at the net but a diving stop by CCSU keeper Anthony Occhialini kept the Flash off the board. Saint Francis turned the offense on near the end of period one, registering four shots and two corner kicks in the last 10 minutes.
Central connected on two more scores in the second half, giving the Blue Devils the 3-0 advantage. CCSU's Obasi was a danger to the Red Flash all afternoon as he dished out assists on all three goals.
Shots for Saint Francis were distributed throughout the lineup with 10 different players registering one shot each.
Nick Kolarac (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Allegheny) led SFU in terms of shots with two.
Saint Francis remains in Loretto this Sunday as they continue Northeast Conference action against St. Francis (NY) at 3 p.m.
