LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 20, 2012) –
Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) of the Saint Francis University field hockey team earned Second-Team All-Region Honors from Longstreth and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
"Carissa had a tremendous season,” head field hockey coach
Stacey Bean said. “She continues to help us raise the bar for our program. To have her selected as one of the top players in a region that has some of the best teams in the country is truly an honor. I know I speak for everyone in our program when I say how happy we are to have Carissa's talent recognized by the NFHCA."
Makea earned Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2012 and was named first-team all-conference for the second consecutive season. The sophomore, who also earned second-team all-region honors in 2011, ranked second on the team in goals (10) and points (25). She also led an SFU defensive unit that posted the best goals-against average in the Northeast Conference and the ninth-best mark in the nation. Makea posted a pair of game-winning goals and also made a game-saving defensive stop in overtime against Sacred Heart as SFU earned its first ever NEC Regular Season Title in 2012.
