UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (Nov. 9, 2012) – At the final meet of its 2012 campaign, the Saint Francis University men's cross country team finished 24
th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships at Penn State University on Friday.
In the 10-kilometer race, it was
Christopher Fischer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) who crossed the finish line first for SFU. Fischer has led the Flash in every race this fall. He placed in 113
th overall with a time of 33:23.
Christopher DeLaney (Leeper, Pa./Venango Catholic) was next to finish for SFU, placing 137
th overall with a time of 34:14 in his regional debut.
Sean Kirby (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) followed closely with a time of 34:24, placing him 140
th overall. The finish is Kirby's best in his four-year career, he improved on a 149
th overall finish from a season ago.
Kyle Penney (Newmarket, Ontario, Canada/Sacred Heart Catholic) finished fourth for SFU in his regional debut with a time of 35:45, good for a 158
th overall finish.
Shaun Foley (Hamilton, N.J./Notre Dame) was the final finisher to record points for SFU, he placed 164
th overall with a time of 37:10.
Compton Saul (Beltsville, Md./High Point) also competed for SFU, he finished in 169
th overall with a time of 39:50.
"On the men's side, although we've run limited mileage this year, our guys fought hard today to overcome the 10k distance," said head coach Doug Hoover.
"Chris Fischer led us for the sixth time this season, his 110th place finish was comparable to the outstanding finish of his freshman campaign, before he sat out last year's regional meet. He's shown a lot of consistency and strength this season," Hoover continued.
