Price and Kolarac earn All-Region accolades

NSCAA North Atlantic All-Region Team

LORETTO, Pa. (Dec. 11, 2012)
– Two members of the Saint Francis University men's soccer team, James Price (Christchurch, New Zealand/St. Andrew’s College) and Nick Kolarac (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Allegheny), received All-North Atlantic Region honors by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Price closes out his Red Flash career with a second team selection, while the junior Kolarac picked up a spot on the third team. This year's all-region selections are the 13th and 14th for the Red Flash by the NSCAA in program history.

Price was selected to the second team as a defender and earned the second all-region honor of his career. He picked up first team honors as a junior last season. In his final go-around with the Red Flash, the 6-4 back out of New Zealand scored twice, including a game-tying goal in the NEC championship match against FDU. Defensively, he helped anchor a SFU backfield that allowed the second fewest goals in the NEC and ranked fourth in team save percentage and 16th in goals against average on a national level.

"James is one of the best central defenders in the country and I am glad he has been recognized to the all-region team,” head coach Michael Casper said. “He is smart, organizes well, has great touch on the ball and can dominate both in the air and in the tackle. As a coach you hate to see a player like James graduate but he has made the players around him and the program better because of his time here. I know James has the ability to play beyond college and I look forward to seeing him accomplish that."

Representing Saint Francis on the third team for the first time in his career is Kolarac who posted a career year. The 5-8 midfielder tallied three assists and a career-best five goals and 13 points on the year. He finished the season as the team leader in goals and points. Three of Kolarac's five scores went as game-winners and helped secure a playoff spot for the Red Flash. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native assisted on Price's game-tying goal in the NEC finals.

"Nick has always been a solid player for us but this year he stepped up, took more responsibility and really made an impact on the field,” Casper said. “I am glad he has been recognized as an all-region player and I think it is very well deserved. Nick has the rare ability to be both a setup man as well as a goal scorer and I am happy to see him take this step in his development.  I am looking forward to big things from Nick as he becomes even more of a leader for this team."

Saint Francis finished the year with a 6-7-7 overall record that included a 4-3-3 mark in Northeast Conference play and a trip to the NEC finals after upsetting top-seeded Quinnipiac in the semifinal round.
