EMITTSBURG, Md. (March 25, 2012
) – Mount St. Mary's led by as many as five goals but fended off a resilient Saint Francis squad to take a, 13-10, women's lacrosse decision on Sunday afternoon.  Despite being down, 8-3, early in the second half, the Red Flash remained within striking for the balance of regulation.

The Mountaineers' Kaitlyn Larrimore registered the first score of the second period to put her team ahead by its largest margin of the afternoon.  Saint Francis, however, responded with a three-goal spurt to make it an, 8-6, contest.

Samantha Barton scored a pair in the flurry to sandwich a goal by Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury).  Mount St. Mary's notched two goals to answer and re-extend its lead to four.  The Flash got those back with back-to-back scores by Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) and Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) but could pull no closer.

Barton led the Red Flash offense for the second game in a row by recording her second career hat trick.  Conwell also loomed large in the SFU assault with two goals and two assists.  Larson and Casey Burk (Moorestown, N.J./Delran) each tallied two goals.

The Flash managed only four shots in the first period, but made the most of those, to go into the locker room down 7-3.  SFU was out-shot 20-to-4 in the opening half, but fired 12 shots to MSM's 10 in the second.

Mountaineers' goalie Brigid McTavish made four saves in the game; her SFU counterpart Caitlin Flynn made 12 saves while taking the loss.

The Red Flash returns home to host San Diego State on Friday afternoon.  The opening draw is set for noon.
