Conwell scores 39th, but Bulldogs hold off Flash

BOX SCORE SMITHFIELD, R.I. (April 13. 2012) Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) tallied a hat trick to lead the Red Flash, but it wasn't enough as Bryant held off the Saint Francis lacrosse team, 13-11, on Friday evening.

Saint Francis (2-12, 0-6 NEC) stayed close all evening, including midway through the first half when it pulled to within a goal – 4-3 – on goals from Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) and Samantha Barton.  However, Lisa Vendel beat Red Flash goalie Caitlin Flynn with a low shot to give the Bulldogs a two-goal cushion with just over five minutes to go in the half.

Bryant (5-8, 4-2 NEC) added a score just before the break to give the Bulldogs a, 6-3, lead at intermission.

In the second half, the Bulldogs led, 13-7, following Katherine Keckeisen's fourth tally of the game with 10 minutes to go.  Saint Francis would not go away quietly, scoring four unanswered goals to set the final, 13-11.  Conwell helped key the rally with her 39th goal of the season.  Bryant goalie Lauren Filippone came up with some keys saves down the stretch to hang on.

The Red Flash plays its road finale at Central Connecticut State on Sunday.  Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
