School-record 21 goals lifts SFU to easy win over LIU

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (April 20, 2012) – After squandering an early three-goal lead Saint Francis found itself down, 8-6, with less than three minutes to go in the first half.  However, Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury), Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) and Megan Ross (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) each scored in a 31 second span to give the Red Flash a lead it would not relinquish en route to a, 21-15, drubbing of LIU Brooklyn on Friday.

The trio of goals was the first of 12 consecutive SFU scores that gave the home-standing Flash an, 18-8, advantage by the midway point of the second period.

After LIU's Shakoya Smith broke up Saint Francis' offensive tear Conwell, Catherine Jenkins (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) and Samantha Barton tallied the game's next three goals to give the Flash a, 21-9, edge.

Conwell, Simmons and Catherine Helming (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) each racked up five goals for SFU, which registered its highest single-game scoring total in program history.  Conwell also notched four assists to finish with nine points.  Kara Ledgerwood (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) helped out on give scores, as well.

Smith also scored five times for the Blackbirds, who slipped to 1-14 (1-7 NEC).  Saint Francis, which closes out its season against Wagner on Sunday, improved to 3-13 (1-7 NEC).

The Flash dominated in most major statistical categories as evidenced by a 34-to-27 advantage in shots and a 23-to-16 stranglehold off the draw.

Goalie Caitlin Flynn earned the win, stopping four of the 12 shots she faced.  Emily Patterson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) played the entire second half, making four saves.
