LORETTO, Pa. (April 5, 2012) – A pair of offensive outbursts by the Northeast Conference-leading Quinnipiac Bobcats dashed any hopes of a Saint Francis upset as the Red Flash went down, 14-4, on Thursday at DeGol Field.
With SFU down, 2-1, nine minutes into the first half Quinnipiac reeled off four consecutive goals to answer a
Catherine Helming (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) marker. Two of the Bobcat goals during that stretch came from Lianne Toomey, who finished with a game-high four scores.
Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) tallied her 34th goal of the season with 2:32 remaining the frame to set the halftime score of, 6-2.
Quinnipiac (6-4; 5-0 NEC) was quick to seize momentum in the second half, scoring four times in the first five minutes to kick-start an 8-0 run that all but sealed the outcome.
SFU's
Jenna Griffiths (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline) and
Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) scored the final two goals of the game.
As a team the Red Flash actually outshot the Bobcats, 27-to-26, but committed 15 turnovers on the day, including 11 in the second half.
Saint Francis (2-10; 0-4 NEC) welcomes Sacred Heart on Saturday for a noon game.
