Flash capture first program win over Colgate in 4-1 victory

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2012) – Playing in its 2012 home opener, the Saint Francis University field hockey team picked up its first program win over Colgate Saturday afternoon at DeGol Field, with a 4-1 victory.

The Red Flash (4-3) tied its season-high mark with four goals in the contest, getting two scores from sophomore Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood). It was the Raiders (1-5) who struck first in the game, just five minutes in, as Halle Bigger put a slow roller past starting SFU keeper Katelyn Vitali.

From there Saint Francis dominated the rest of the game, putting up a season-best 28 shots to Colgate's nine. Give credit to the Raiders keeper Amanda DiDomizio though who turned away 15 of those Red Flash shots. Pellman led the SFU attack, registering 11 shots, a career-high.

Pellman got Saint Francis on the board first 49 seconds after the opening Colgate goal. The 5-10 forward took a pass from senior Jocelyn Scillia (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) on the right side of the field and put enough on her shot to tie the game at one. Six minutes following Pellman's strike, freshman Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) notched her third goal of the season, unassisted into the left corner of the cage.

Coming out of the halftime break with a one-goal lead, the Flash got right back into the scoring action nine minutes in as Pellman and Scillia connected once again, giving Pellman five goals on the year. With the score set at 3-1, SFU tallied its final goal of the contest off of a flawlessly executed set piece. To start the penalty corner attack, Tia Dudukovich (Port Matilda, Pa./State College Area) got a quick pass off to Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College), who chipped the ball off to Kellie Mason (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich). Mason then landed a perfect bullet pass to the stick of Dudukovich who tapped the ball into a wide open cage.

Saint Francis will have limited time to rest as they head to Lock Haven, Pa. for a neutral site match against Vermont tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
