BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2013) – Saint Francis out-shot visiting Bryant 24-to-8 as it rolled to a 5-0 Northeast Conference win Sunday at the Stokes Soccerplex.
Senior forwards
Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) and
Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) combined for 14 of those shots, each converting on two, to lead a potent Red Flash offensive. In addition to her two goals, McKibben assisted on two Maros de Carvalho goals – including the game-winner in the 40th minute – to bring her season point total to 26.
After playing to a 1-0 advantage in the first half, the floodgates opened for SFU (7-6-1; 3-0-0) in the second.
McKibben got the ball rolling just over eight minutes into the second frame with the first of two long-distance strikes. Maros de Carvalho picked up her second goal of the afternoon in the 66th minute after accepting another short cross from McKibben.
Ellie Gavin (Hilliard, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) pushed the score to 4-0 in the 83rd minute with her third tally of the season. Rookie midfielder
Siobhan Bross (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) picked up her second helper of the afternoon on the play. Bross also assisted on McKibben's first goal.
In the 83rd minute, McKibben closed out the scoring with a 30-yard rocket from the right side that crossed the face of the goal before hitting the twine in the left side of the net.
Bryant (5-8-1; 1-1-1), which dropped its first NEC game of the season, placed four of its eight shots on goal.
SFU rookie goalkeeper
Abbey Collins (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) improved to 4-0-0 since becoming the starter, making four stops. The shutout was her second of the season.
