Red Flash Tame Terriers In Double OT

BOX SCORE BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – (Oct. 18, 2013) The Saint Francis University men's soccer team wins a double overtime battle between the Franciscans' on Stefan Sjekloca (Belgrade, Serbia/Fryeburg Academy)'s golden ball in the 101st minute of the double overtime. The Red Flash (9-2-3; 2-0-1) gave the Terriers (7-3-1; 1-1) their first Northeast Conference loss of the season, ending their three-game winning streak. SFU improves to 5-1 on the road and extended their winning streak to two games.

Bryan Causey (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) played a deflected pass off Sjekloca back to Sjekloca, who opened up his hips and curved the ball around the Terries keeper into the far post. The freshman netted his second goal of the season as Causey picked up his second assist on the year.

"I am really proud of the guys tonight," said Head Coach Michael Casper. "I thought they battled and worked and stuck together through the tough times in the game." "Saint Francis Brooklyn is a really good team and this is not an easy place to come in and get a win, but the guys stepped it up in overtime and found a deserved goal."

The Terries had several opportunities to upset SFU, outshooting the Red and White 19-to-10, but SFB could not penetrate the Frankies defensive scheme led by Daniel Valcicak (Herndon, Va./Gonzaga College) and company. Valcicak faced 10 shots on goal denying all 10 in progress to a season-best 10 save performance.

The Red Flash did hold a 6-to-3 advantage over the Terries in corner-kicks and a 14-to-8 margin in fouls. St. Francis Brooklyn goofed on the attack receiving 6 offsides to the Frankies one.

Valcicak earned his sixth shutout of the season improving his record to 7-2-3.

"I thought Bryan Causey (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) worked tremendously hard all night and then had the class to make the special pass to Stefan who finished it nicely," said Coach Casper. "This is a great night for our team and we will enjoy it tonight, but stay focused and get ready for LIU on Sunday."

The road warriors look to take down another NEC foe Sunday at 1 p.m. when they face LIU Brooklyn.
