Flash Comeback Falls Short at Lock Haven

BOX SCORE LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Oct. 2, 2013) - The Saint Francis University field hockey team lost, 3-2, in a tight battle on the road against Lock Haven in a non-conference match-up.

The Red Flash (3-4) faced an early 2-0 deficit in the contest as the Bald Eagles (9-2) put two shots past rookie goalkeeper Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), playing in her first collegiate game.

SFU responded right after halftime as Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) netted a goal off a shot from Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College). Lock Haven scored again to take the 3-1 lead at the 46 minute mark.

Makea was able to fire a shot past LHU goalkeeper Elaina White off a penalty corner pass from Nikki Snyder (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) with just 30 seconds to play.

Zeiders finished with five saves in her inaugural game with the Red and White, while Pellman notched a game-high six shots.

The Eagles outshot SFU 12-9 and each squad earned six penalty corners.

Saint Francis returns to action in just two days as it travels to Georgetown at  7 p.m. for the final non-conference match-up of the 2013 campaign.

SFU will host Lock Haven next Friday, Oct. 11, as the Flash begin Atlantic 10 Conference play for the first time ever.
