BOX SCORE PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Oct. 27, 2013) – The Saint Francis University field hockey team was held scoreless for the first time during the 2013 campaign and fell to Saint Joseph's on the road, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Flash (7-7, 2-3) was matched in a physical game against the Hawks (6-11, 3-2) and neither team put any goals on the board during the first half of play.
SFU led in shots, 6-3, and racked up five penalty corners, but was unable to convert any of its scoring chances in that first frame.
Saint Joe's took control out of the halftime break and fired nine shots, including the game winner by Jordan Martin at the 40-minute mark.
Saint Francis continued to fight and used some late penalty corner chances to threaten, but ultimately came up just short. Four cards were given out during the second period, including a red card given to
Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) in the 54th minute.
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) notched six shots in the game, five of them going on net, while
Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) also added two shots.
Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) posted five saves in the loss.
Saint Francis will return to Sweet Loretto this upcoming weekend for its final regular season games. The Flash welcomes Saint Louis on Friday for a 3 p.m. contest.
