BOX SCORE COLLEGE PARK, Md. (Oct. 4, 2013) –
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) notched a game-winning goal in overtime as the Saint Francis U field hockey team bested Georgetown, 3-2, on Friday evening.
Pellman dribbled through the circle and took a shot from the middle to beat Hoyas (2-9) keeper Rosalie Nolen to give the Red Flash (4-4) the victory on the road.
Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) broke the scoreless tie just after the 24-minute mark in the first half off a penalty corner pass from
Nikki Snyder (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman). Gtown scored four minutes later and the teams were tied at one at halftime.
It was Makea who broke the tie again two minutes into the second period after a nice feed from
Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) and SFU took the 2-1 lead.
Georgetown tried the remainder of the half to get the equalizer, firing 10 shots, four of which freshman goalkeeper
Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) turned away. On Georgetown's final shot of the half, the Hoyas were able score and take the game to overtime.
In the extra period, SFU was able to muster three shots the final one being Pellman's game winner.
Zeiders finished with six saves and the freshman picked up her first collegiate win. Saint Francis registered 16 shots in the match with Pellman and Makea each adding six.
Saint Francis starts its first ever Atlantic 10 Conference play at home on Friday as Lock Haven comes to Sweet Loretto for a 4 p.m. match-up.
