SFU downs Sacred Heart to set up title tilt Sunday

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 1, 2013) – The Saint Francis U women's soccer team built a four-goal lead and held off a persistent Sacred Heart side to claim a 4-2 Northeast Conference win Friday at the Stokes Soccerplex.

The Red Flash welcomes Fairleigh Dickinson to Sweet Loretto on Sunday in the de facto NEC regular season title game.  The Knights, who tied last-place Robert Morris 0-0 on Friday, currently stand two points behind SFU in the race to host the 2013 championship tournament.

Saint Francis can secure hosting rights and a third-straight regular season crown with a win or a draw in its finale.  Kickoff is slated for noon.

On Friday, senior forward Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) paced the Flash with two goals and an assist to raise her career point total to 167 – still the most among active players in the NCAA.

Junior Eloá Nascimento (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Jose Maria Matosinho) opened up the scoring in the 15th minute after collecting the rebound from her own shot and finding the back of the net from 18 yards out.

McKibben's markers in the 19th and 65th minutes sandwiched Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus)'s game-winner with 34:34 showing on the clock.  Maros de Carvalho took a short cross from Ellie Gavin (Hilliard, Ohio/Bishop Watterson), who was the recipient of a pass from McKibben, and finished from five yards out.

Alecia McNiff (Marietta, Pa./Donegal ) and Mackenzie Walter (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) assisted on McKibben's first and second goals, respectively.

Sacred Heart's scores came from Alexis Parlato (79th) and Marissa Christy (88th).

SFU goalkeeper Abbey Collins (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) made six stops in the contest.
