Red Flash Tripped Up On Opening Day

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 FARMVILLE, Va. (Feb. 21, 2013) – The Saint Francis U softball team suffered a pair of setbacks at Longwood to open the 2013 season, falling 20-4 in game one of the doubleheader and 10-0 in game two.

In game one the Lancers (4-0) jumped out to a seemingly insurmountable 11-0 lead in the first inning and continued to tack on runs throughout the five innings played. The Red Flash (0-2) did get on the board however in the third inning. After back-to-back walks put SFU runners on the base paths, an error by Longwood's second baseman allowed freshman Aly Ramsaier (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) to cross the plate.

SFU got another run in the fourth on a Sabrie Neeb (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) RBI single, scoring Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) from second. Samantha Thomas (Sterling, Va./Park View) collected a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Taylor Darneille (Fircrest, Wash./Wilson) singled in a run in the same inning to round out the Saint Francis scoring.

Game two of the twin bill didn't favor the Red Flash on the scoresheet either as they were held to just one hit in the contest. The single came off the bat of Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle), who collected two hits on the day.

Saint Francis has little time to rest as they get back to the diamond tomorrow to open play at the North Carolina A&T tournament with a 9 a.m. contest against Maryland Eastern Shore and a 1 p.m. game with NC A&T.
