Second Half Surge Not Enough Against Campbell

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (March 14, 2013) – The Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team scored six second half goals, but fell to Campbell University, 8-7, at DeGol Field on Thursday evening.

The Red Flash (2-4) struggled to get going offensively in the first half, but managed to play tough defense, only allowing four goals from the Camels (3-2).

Campbell jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with 21 minutes to play in the first period. The Camels netted another tally to make it 4-0 in their favor at the seven minute mark. Megan Ross (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) ended the scoring drought for SFU as she scored with just under two minutes on a free position attempt.

The Camels scored at the beginning of period two to take a 5-1 lead. SFU then scored three unanswered goals to get within one with 8:22 to play. Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East), Rebecca Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and Ross scored the three consecutive goals for the Flash.

Both teams scored again before Saint Francis tied the game at six after another tally from Meyer. The Flash then took the 7-6 lead after Larson tallied her second goal of the evening at the 4:45 mark.

The Camels then scored two consecutive goals within fifteen seconds to seal the victory. Saint Francis posted a season-high 30 shots in the game and forced Brittany Kincer of Campbell to make 15 saves.

Lauren Bezmen (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart) scored her first career goal for SFU. Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) added two assists and three draw controls, while Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) added another helper.

Saint Francis will return to action on Sunday as they host Delaware State at 1 p.m.
