BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (March 22, 2013) – Freshman midfielder
Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) netted five goals for the Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team, but they fell to Central Connecticut State, 12-9, in the Northeast Conference opener on Friday afternoon.
The Red Flash (3-5, 0-1) went into halftime all tied at five, but surrendered seven Blue Devils (2-5, 1-0) goals in the second half.
Fini scored the first goal of the game just two minutes into the first half on a nice feed from
Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron). That would be a common theme the remainder of the afternoon as that duo connected on four of Fini's five goals.
CCSU went on to take a 5-3 lead with under five minutes to play in the first half. SFU responded as Fini and
Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) each scored to tie the game at five going into halftime.
Central Connecticut scored twice to open the second half before
Olivia Pittman (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary's) scored on a free position attempt. Fini then scored her fourth goal of the afternoon at the 20:10 mark to tie the game at seven.
With the game tied at eight, the Blue Devils scored four unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.
Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) finished with two goals, while
Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) posted a goal, five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Jordan Porretto (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) notched five draw controls for SFU.
Saint Francis will conclude its four-game home stand on Sunday as they face Bryant at noon.
