BOX SCORE STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (March 28, 2013) – The Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team lost to the Wagner Seahawks, 13-10, on Thursday afternoon.
The Red Flash (3-7, 0-3) took a 6-3 lead into the halftime break, but could not fend off a Seahawks (5-6, 1-2) run in the second period.
Wagner scored quickly to start the game, but SFU responded with a goal from
Olivia Pittman (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary's) at the 26:03 mark. The Seahawks went on to score two unanswered goals, before SFU started its scoring spree.
Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) and
Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) scored to even the game at three. Pittman then scored her second of the afternoon on a free position attempt to give the Flash a 4-3 lead with 19 minutes to play.
Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) and
Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) each scored within 25 seconds to give SFU a 6-3 lead with 15:40 to play. No goals were scored for the remaining 15 minutes of the period and the Flash took the three goal lead into halftime.
Wagner opened the second half scoring six unanswered goals to take a 9-6 lead. SFU proved resilient again as they scored three straight to even the game at nine. Fini scored followed by two from Larson in just one minute of play.
The Seahawks scored four goals down the stretch to earn the win.
Megan Ross (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) scored SFU's 10th goal of the afternoon at the 9:29 mark.
Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) earned the start in net, the freshman recorded four saves in the losing effort.
Saint Francis will travel to LIU Brooklyn for a noon match-up on Saturday.
