Saint Francis Routs LIU Brooklyn; Schaaf Sets New Assist Record

BOX SCORE BROOKLYN, N.Y. (March 30, 2013) – The Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team earned its first conference win, beating LIU Brooklyn 19-12, on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Flash (4-7, 1-3) were led by Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron). The freshman posted six assists in the game, setting a new Saint Francis record. The Blackbirds (0-11, 0-4) trailed 10-4 at halftime and failed to mount a comeback.

SFU embarked on a 3-1 lead after goals from Rebecca Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton), Megan Ross (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas), and Victoria O'Brien (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East). SFU extended its lead to 6-1 after Olivia Pittman (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary's)'s first goal at the 12:18 mark of the first half. Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) was able to find the back of net with just six seconds left, giving the Flash a 10-4 lead at the break.

Saint Francis picked up where they left off, scoring three more unanswered goals after the break to take a 13-4 lead. LIU Brooklyn responded with three straight goals to narrow the margin to six with 22 minutes to play.

The margin got as close as five at 15-10 with 18:37 to play. SFU went on to score four more goals to close out the game and earn the league victory.

Olivia Pittman (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary's) finished with seven points after scoring five times and adding two assists. Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) and Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) each added three goals. Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) recorded two goals and Lauren Bezmen (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart) added another.

Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) earned the win in net and recorded four saves.

Saint Francis will return home to face Mount St. Mary's on Friday at 4 p.m.
