Strong First Half Leads SFU to Win Over Coastal Carolina

BOX SCORE CONWAY, S.C. (March 5, 2013) – The Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team took down Coastal Carolina, 9-6, to earn its second win of the 2013 season.

The Chanticleers (1-5) got on the board first at the 27 minute mark, but the Red Flash (2-2) responded with five consecutive goals. SFU went into halftime leading 5-2, with all five goals coming from different players.

The Flash came out of the break notching two quick goals after a red card was given to Coastal. Megan Ross (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) and Rebecca Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) both scored within 18 seconds of each other to give SFU a 7-2 lead.

The Chants scored three straight goals to narrow the margin to two at 7-5. Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) then scored her second of the day for the Red Flash at the 12:57 mark. Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) scored the final goal for SFU with 5:13 to play, also her second tally of the evening.

Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) earned the win in net for Saint Francis, but it was a combined effort as Kimberly Peterson also logged 15 minutes of playing time.

Seven different players scored for SFU, with Ingram and Schaaf both adding multiple scores. Olivia Pittman (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary's), Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East), and Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) also added goals. 

SFU outshot Coastal 23-16 and the Flash collected 13 draw controls to the Chants four.

Saint Francis will play the third match of its road trip Thursday against Liberty at 3 p.m.
