BUIES CREEK, N.C. (April 1, 2013) – In the opening round of the Keith Hills Invitational on Monday, the Saint Francis U men's golf team posted a seventh place ranking in the field of eight.

Round one was delayed two hours in the start time due to overnight rains that left the course too wet to be considered playable first thing this morning. Once play got underway the first round was completed and part of round two was started but play was suspended for darkness and will be completed Tuesday.

The Red Flash shot a 311 for their opening round and currently sit ahead of eighth place Hampton. Tournament host Campbell and Gardner Webb are tied for the team lead after both schools carded a round of 288.

Kevin Fawcett (London, Ontario, Canada/Oakridge Secondary) led the charge for SFU in round one after shooting a one-over par 72, ranking him in a tie for eighth. Fawcett collected five birdies on the day, one off the pace set by Hunter Howell of North Carolina State. In the field of 60 individuals, both Chris Stricek (Binghamton, N.Y./Windsor) and Shane Crampton (London, Ontario, Canada/Saunders Secondary) fired rounds of 79 on Monday, placing them in a tie for 42nd place. Edward Maruca (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria)'s first round score of 81 has him in a tie for 51st and Jeff Chastel (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) sits in a tie for 54th place after he compiled an 83 for his opening round.

Also playing in this week's tournament, the Red Flash entered a few of its student-athletes as individuals in the competition. In a tie for 33rd, Vincent Adams (Boisbriand, Quebec/John Abbot College) led the way for this group, carding a 76. James Ferguson (Altoona, Pa./Tyrone)'s round of 80 ranks him in a tie for 48th place while Kyle Krout (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) joins Maruca in a tie for 51st with a round of 81.

Amanjyot Singh of Campbell posted an excellent first round after he fired a five-under par score of 66 to open play with the tournament lead.
