Saint Francis Returns Home to Take On Cleveland State

Pregame Release    |    Live Stats

Saint Francis welcomes the Cleveland State University Vikings to Loretto for its second set of home games in 2013. Last season in Cleveland, Ohio the Red Flash split a doubleheader with CSU, falling 4-1 in game one and coming out on top 9-8 in eight innings in game two.

A fairly new series, today marks the 11th and 12th meetings between these two schools with Cleveland State holding the edge in the all-time series, 8-2.

SAINT FRANCIS' LAST TIME OUT...
Tuesday night the Red Flash made the short drive up to State College, Pa. to take on the Nittany Lions of Penn State in just single game action. PSU dealt the Flash a 4-1 loss, dropping the team's record to 16-16 on the season. Penn State used two homeruns in the game to come out on the better end of the score. Saint Francis scored its lone run in the third on a throwing error. Karlie Miller (Wildomar, Calif./Temescal Canyon) went 2-for-3 in the game with a pair of singles.

Ketarah DeVries (Forreston, Ill./Forreston) got the call in the circle, threw all six innings and let up the four runs that dropped her pitching record to 11-10 on the season.

CSU'S LAST TIME OUT...
The Vikings were also in non-conference action on Tuesday and dropped a pair of one-run games to the Akron Zips, 3-2 and 5-4. Erica McNew collected her team-leading ninth homerun of the season in game two. On the day McNew went 4-for-7 with a homerun and two RBI's. The sophomore catcher leads the Vikings in batting average (.375), home runs (9), RBI's (18) and runs scored (19).

On the mound, freshman Susan Knight has logged a majority of the CSU innings. Knight enters the game with a 6-6 record and a 2.71 earned run average and has thrown 65 strikeouts.

OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION
In terms of league wide statistics, the Red Flash rank in the top-five in the Northeast Conference in nearly all major offensive categories. SFU has pounded out a NEC-best 252 hits on the season and rank second behind conference leader Central Connecticut in runs scored. In the extra base hit categories, Saint Francis ranks second in homeruns (22) and third in doubles (40) and triples (4).

POWER SHORTSTOP
Normally teams turn to their third or first baseman for the power numbers but this season for SFU, the power has come from its junior shortstop Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow). Heading into the 33rd game of the season, Kachnovitz leads the Flash with six homeruns and 22 runs batted in. In both set of statistics she has surpassed her previous season-high numbers and her five doubles ties a career-high.

CAREER SEASON
Catcher Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) has turned it on here in her junior season. The New Kensington, Pa. native is currently hitting at a .358 clip and ranks second in the NEC in triples and is tied for fourth in two baggers. She leads the team with 38 hits, eight doubles and two triples. As a sophomore, Cosentino batted .163 and has already surpassed all of her offensive totals from a season ago.

YOUNG GUNS
While the starting lineup does change from time to time, a majority of the average SFU starting lineup consists of underclassmen. Sophomore Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) continues to play a more than solid second base and elsewhere scattered across the field are a handful of freshmen. Sam Thomas, Kate Blattenberger (Martinsburg, Pa./Central), Ketarah DeVries (Forreston, Ill./Forreston), Sabrie Neeb (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) and Maggie Creciun (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) have all seen significant play in at least 22 of the 32 SFU contests.
