BOX SCORE LEWISBURG, Pa. (April 16, 2013) – The Saint Francis University women's lacrosse team lost on the road in a non-conference match-up against Bucknell, 9-7, on Tuesday evening.
The Red Flash (4-12) were led by
Rebecca Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and
Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) who each had two goals. The Bison (5-11) trailed early in the game, but took a three-goal lead in the second half and fought back against any SFU comeback effort.
Olivia Pittman (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary's) put SFU ahead with just the second shot of the game at the 28 minute mark after a pass from
Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron).
Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) scored next to give the Flash a 2-0 lead with just under 25 minutes remaining in the first half, which forced a Bucknell timeout.
The Bison scored two goals over a quick 30-second span to tie the game at two apiece.
Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) gave Saint Francis a 3-2 lead as she scored at the 15:43 mark. The Bison tied the game again just two minutes later.
With under seven minutes to play in the first half,
Rebecca Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) scored to give SFU a 4-3 lead. However, the Bison responded with two quick goals to take a 5-4 lead into the halftime break.
It was Meyer again who tied up the game for SFU at five with 25 minutes to play. Bucknell was able to score a goal in a shorthanded situation to take the 6-5 lead at the 22:31 mark. The Bison went on to score two more goals to take a three-goal lead, the largest lead for any team in the game.
Larson found the back of the net for the second time with just over six minutes to play in hope of a late SFU comeback. Bucknell scored again late, and then
Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) scored for SFU with under a minute to play to make it a 9-7 final score.
Katie Shaaf finished with four assists, extending her team-leading season total to 23.
Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) posted eight saves in the loss.
Saint Francis makes its final regular season road trip and will face Sacred Heart at 3 p.m. on Friday.
