SFU partners with WWGE-AM 1400 for hoops, football broadcasts

LORETTO, Pa. (August 23, 2013) – Saint Francis University football and basketball are returning to the airwaves for the 2013-14 season.

Loretto-based WWGE-AM 1400 will also return to the local radio dial with a new music format after being a news/talk station in previous years. In addition, a regional sports talk program "The Jed Donahue Show on the Pennsylvania Sports Network" based in State College will air Monday - Friday from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 am - Noon. Saint Francis University coaches and players will be featured during regular interview segments on the show.

"We're excited to announce WWGE-AM 1400 as our new flagship station and return to the local radio market," said Saint Francis Associate Director of Athletics Jim Brazill. "We look forward to the many benefits of a lasting relationship between WWGE-AM 1400 and Saint Francis Athletics."

In anticipation of the company's move into the Altoona-Johnstown market, Saint Francis partnered with ESPN Williamsport in January to produce Red Flash men's and women's basketball games. The bulk of last season's broadcasts were available online only.

"Having seen The Red Flash programs grow with the success of the online only broadcasts last year it made perfect sense to acquire the radio station and put the games on so that even more local fans can enjoy Saint Francis Athletics," said WWGE-AM 1400 general manager Todd Bartley.

Beginning with Sept. 7's football opener at Georgia Southern, The Red Flash can be heard on both WWGE-AM 1400 and the station's website, 1400WWGE.com.  A free app can be downloaded at tunein.com and search WWGE to listen to the games anywhere in the world.

Pat Farabaugh will enter his fourth season as the voice of Saint Francis football and, once again, will be joined by Jay Roberts for all home and select road games.

Returning for his 35th season with the Red Flash, Joe Vesnesky will call all SFU men's basketball action and, for the 11th season, will be joined by color analyst Bernie Jubeck. The duo will also call home women's basketball games.
