Kolarac's Game Winner Leads Saint Francis Past William & Mary

BOX SCORE

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - (Aug. 30, 2013) Nick Kolarac (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Allegheny)'s game winning goal in the 61st minute carried Saint Francis to a exhilarating 1-0 victory over a fierce William & Mary team.

The Saint Francis U men's soccer team improves to (1-0) in its season opener as William & Mary drops to (0-1).  Leading the team with four shots, Kolarac scored off an assist from Wallis Debourou (Cotonou, Benin/Blair Academy).  Debourou's assist came off a shot attempt that deflected off the post to Kolarac, for the game-winning strike.

"What a great night for our team and for our program," said head coach Michael Casper. " I am proud of the way the guys battled today. They worked hard and stuck together. It wasn't always pretty, but we got a goal and kept a clean sheet against a pretty good team. William & Mary is a good side with an excellent tradition and I am happy to be able to come down here and get a win on the road."

The Tribe controlled the stat columns, besting the Red Flash 11 to 8 in shots and 5 to 2 in corner kicks.

Michael Teiman and Jackson Eskay of William & Mary had four of the teams 11 shots carrying the Tribe on the offensive side of the field.

Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Garcia (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) got the start for the Red Flash, collecting four saves against a powerful Colonial Athletic Association team. The Tribe threatened SFU offensively the entire game collecting 11 shots, four at Garcia and four deflected by Saint Francis defenders. Garcia's hard work between the pipes earned him his first victory for the Red Flash.

"I thought Andrew Garcia (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) was tremendous in goal and the whole team played hard in front of him," said coach Casper. "Now we have a quick turn around and have to get ready for a good Canisius side."

Saint Francis returns home this Sunday for their home opener against Canisius College at the Stokes Soccerplex at 1 p.m.
