BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 1, 2013) –
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) scored a Saint Francis University record five goals to lead SFU in a landslide victory over Lehigh, 6-3, in the season opener.
Pellman netted three goals in the first six minutes of the game for the Red Flash (1-0). The SFU defense also held the Mountain Hawks (0-2) shot-less and scoreless for the first 30 minutes of the contest.
Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) netted the fourth goal of the day for SFU with 13 minutes to play in the first half. The Flash took a 4-1 advantage into the halftime break.
Lehigh had two early penalty corner opportunities in the second half. One of them nearly led to a goal, but
Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) made an impressive defensive save to prevent a tally.
Pellman got the offense going again with an early marker in the second half off a nice feed from
Jocelyn Scillia (Lititz, Pa./Warwick). The Mountain Hawks scored two consecutive goals and the game was at 5-3 in favor of SFU. Pellman netted her fifth goal of the game with under two minutes to play.
Jill DiCola (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) earned the win in net for SFU, the senior posted four saves in the game.
Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman),
Nikki Snyder (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman), and
Lottie Chipego (Dallas, Pa./Lake-Lehman) each added an assist in the match.
Saint Francis returns to action on Sept. 13 for a road match-up against Cornell at 4 p.m.
