McKibben nets five points as Flash downs George Washington

BOX SCORE WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 1, 2013) – Playing its third Atlantic 10 opponent in four games, the Saint Francis U women's soccer team finally broke into the win column with a 3-1 road win over George Washington Sunday.

The Red Flash's MAC Hermann Trophy candidate Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) racked up five points in the match, including the game-winning goal in the 68th minute.

After a scoreless opening half, Alecia McNiff (Marietta, Pa./Donegal ) headed in a McKibben free kick at 58:30 to put Saint Francis on top to stay.  McKibben, who was credited with the assist, also scored SFU's final goal of the match in the 70th minute.

Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) earned the assist on the marker.

SFU goalkeeper Jessica Andrew (Doncaster, South Yorkshire UK/Balby Carr) put forth a sparkling effort in net, making stops on eight of nine Colonial shots on goal.  GW's only goal of the game served as nothing more than window dressing, coming with 42 seconds to play.

George Washington held a 9-to-7 edge in shots on goal, but The Red Flash maintained a 5-to-4 margin in corner kicks.

Saint Francis returns to the Stokes Soccerplex on Thursday as it welcomes George Mason for a 4 p.m. match.
