Towson uses quick strikes to turn aside The Red Flash

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 20, 2013) – Barely four minutes separated a pair of second-half Towson goals, but it was all the Tigers needed to notch a rare win over the Saint Francis U women's soccer team at the Stokes Soccerplex Friday.  A Towson own goal in the 89th minute set the 2-1 final score.

With the loss, The Red Flash falls to 24-3-5 at home since the 2010 campaign and will look to rebound when it welcomes a tough Navy team to Sweet Loretto on Sunday (noon).

SFU easily controlled the tempo in the first half, out-shooting the Tigers (4-4-1) 8-to-2 in the period with several seemingly-solid scoring scenarios foiled by Towson goalkeeper Erin Quinn.  Quinn turned in a strong outing, making seven stops on the afternoon.

The Tigers came out with vigor after the intermission and turned up the games first goal in the 56th minute via a Sofia Read direct kick.  In the 60th minute, Emily Banes doubled the Towson edge with a breakaway goal that beat SFU keeper Jessica Andrew (Doncaster, South Yorkshire UK/Balby Carr).

Saint Francis (3-5-1) finished the day with a 13-to-8 advantage in shots, including an 8-to-5 margin on shots on goal, and took six corners to Towson's three.
