Valcicak Saves The Red Flash On The Road

BOX SCORE

LEWISBURG, Pa. – (Sept. 4, 2013) Senior Red Flash goalie Daniel Valcicak (Herndon, Va./Gonzaga College) put on a show between the pipes blanking an aggressive Bucknell squad 1-0 as the Saint Francis U men's soccer team improves to an 3-0 start.

Bucknell University (0-2) came out in the first half controlling the pace of the game, dominating Saint Francis (3-0) in every stat column. In shots the Bison led 8-to-0 and in corner kicks they had a 4-to-1 advantage over the Red and White. The difference maker was SFU goalkeeper Valcicak, who came off a two game suspension from being red-shirted in 2012. Valcicak made several game changing saves as the first half came to a close keeping the Frankies in the game.

"I am a firm believer that a sign of a good team is being able to win a game when you don't play your best" said Head Coach Michael Casper. "Tonight, I thought Bucknell was excellent and really put us under a lot of pressure. Our guys battled, fought, and really stuck together against a good team in a very tough environment."

Midfielder Pablo Medina (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academies) netted the game-winning goal for the Red Flash on a ball headed out by a Bucknell defensive-man. Medina charged in driving the ball home through several Bison defenders giving Saint Francis U a 1-0 lead

Valcicak earned his first shutout of the 2013 season after facing 21 shots, six being on goal. SFU led Bucknell in saves 6-to-0 neither team having an advantage in fouls as they both committed 10.

"I thought Bryan Causey (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) and Francis de Vries (Christchurch, New Zealand/Cashmere) played exceptionally well and Valcicak was fantastic in goal and got a well-earned shutout" said Coach Casper. "Hopefully our team can continue to build on this, as we get ready for a tough Loyola side on Saturday."

The Red Flash stay on the road as they face Loyola on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.
