BOX SCORE BALTIMORE, Md. – (Sept. 7, 2013) After posting the first 3-0 start in Saint Francis U men's soccer history the Red Flash fall to the Loyola Greyhounds 1-0 late Saturday afternoon.
The first half rendered a slow start for the Red Flash (3-1) as they managed two-shots to the Greyhound's (2-0-1) five. Saint Francis held a 2-to-1 advantage over the Greyhounds in corner kicks going into the second. Yellow cards were awarded to
Nick Kolarac (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Allegheny) of SFU and Larry Ndjock for LUM at the nine-minute mark of the first.
"Tonight was frustrating because we started the game very poorly and did not give ourselves 90 minutes to win the match" said Head Coach
Michael Casper.
41 seconds into the second Loyola's Ndjock laced home the game-winning goal past Saint Francis's keeper Daniel Valciak. Dominic Marshall for the Greyhounds picked up the assist.
Following Loyola's early second-half goal the Red and White picked up their intensity out-shooting the Greyhounds 11-to-7 and created multiple scoring opportunities, ultimately running out of time.
"We were much better in the second half dominating play" said Coach Casper. "We gave up an unfortunate goal and could not finish our own chances." "I do not think we deserved the loss, but we did not do enough to win either."
Mid-fielder Kolarac led the Red Flash with four shot attempts followed by senior
David Trunzo (State College, Pa./State College) with two.
Loyola edged out Saint Francis in fouls 14-to-13; also earning the lone save of the game was goalkeeper Jordan Watson for the Greyhounds. Corner kicks went in favor of Saint Francis 5-to-1.
The Red Flash fall to 0-2-1 overall against Loyola.
The men's soccer team continues their road trip facing IPFW Sept. 13 at 5 p.m.
