BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 12, 2014) - The Saint Francis University field hockey team stayed undefeated at home after an overtime non-conference win against Villanova, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Flash (10-1) moved to 6-0 at DeGol Field in 2014 with the victory over the Wildcats (3-10).
SFU was on the scoreboard first just five minutes in as
Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) scored off a rebound shot that
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) fired in from the penalty corner attempt.
Eight minutes later Saint Francis took the 2-0 lead when
Nikki Snyder (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) scored off another rebound that bounced to her in front of the net. Neither team scored again in the opening frame and SFU held the 2-0 halftime lead.
Villanova finally found some offense late in the second half as it scored two goals within five minutes to tie the game at 2-2. The Wildcats second goal was deflected in front of Flash goalkeeper
Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin).
It was a short lived overtime period as
Nikki Snyder (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) scored her second of the afternoon just 2:21 in and SFU improved to 10-1 on the season.
Makea, Pellman, and Snyder all registered four shots in the game, Saint Francis totaled 18 shots compared to just four for the Wildcats. The Red Flash also notched 16 penalty corners, compared to just three for Villanova. Zeiders finished with two saves in net.
Saint Francis returns to action at home on Friday as it hosts Richmond at 3 p.m.
