Francis de Vries (Christchurch, New Zealand/Cashmere) scored on a set piece 30 yards out, striking the top of the crossbar and deflecting in.
"This was a hard fought win," said head coach
Michael Casper. " I didn't think we were all that sharp tonight, but the guys played extremely hard and were able to grind out a crucial three points."
de Vries now has five goals this season, all which are game winners, raising his shot on goal percentage to 73%. de Vries also leads the team with 10 points.
Red Flash keeper
Andrew Garcia (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) picked up his league leading seventh shutout this season. Garcia recorded five saves in the shutout, including four in the first half.
"Keeping the clean sheet was important as there was only going to be one goal in this game as neither team could really create anything special. The goal was either going to come off of a mistake, or a moment of brilliance and that's what Francis supplied. That was a goal worthy of winning any game and clearly showed his class. It was a big night for our group, but now we need to refocus, recover, and get ready for a very tough side in LIU," said Casper.
Conner Rezende (Davie, Fla. /University School at Nova Southeastern) led all players with three of the Red Flash's 10 shots.
Calvin Rezende (Davie, Fla. /University School at Nova Southeastern) and
Ryan Byers (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) also had two shots apiece.
Vincent Bezecourt and Lavatore Barone each had two of the Terriers 10 shots.
