Red Flash Falls at Richmond in A-10 Semifinals

BOX SCORE RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 7, 2014) – The Saint Francis University field hockey had its historic season come to an end on Friday afternoon as it lost to host No. 2 Richmond, 5-0, in the Atlantic 10 Semifinals.

The Red Flash finishes the 2014 with a 14-3 overall record in a season which it set program records for wins and conference wins.

It was SFU that had the first scoring chance when Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) nearly converted as she fired a shot that missed wide left five minutes in.

The Saint Francis defense was tested early in the first half as Richmond's Amy Cooke had a penalty stroke, which was beautifully saved by Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin).
Just 15 minutes after the first penalty stroke the Spiders recorded another, this time it was successful and they took the 1-0 lead with less than 13 minutes to play in the opening half.

Richmond then scored off a penalty corner attempt at the 30:54 mark and took a 2-0 advantage into halftime. Zeiders finished with three saves in the period.

The Spiders scored eight minutes into the second period off a rebound in front of the net and they went on to score twice more before the end of the contest.

The Red Flash attempted its lone penalty corner at the 59:46 mark and Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) forced a save by UR's goalkeeper. Zeiders finished the game with five saves for Saint Francis U.
