SFU Hosts Duquesne for Home Opener

LORETTO, Pa. (March 14, 2014) - The Saint Francis University women's lacrosse team opens its 2014 home schedule on Friday evening as Keystone state rival, Duquesne, comes to Sweet Loretto for a 7 p.m. match-up.

SCOUTING THE DUKES

Duquesne has started out the 2014 campaign with a 3-1 record overall, including wins against Howard, Marquette, and Niagara. The Dukes only loss came against Penn State, on Feb. 25 when it fell, 11-7.

Junior Amanda Kidder leads the Dukes with 16 goals in just four games, she also has four assists to total 20 points. Junior Clare Hurley has posted 10 goals, which ranks second on the team.

LAST TIME OUT...

Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) scored six goals to pace the Saint Francis University women's lacrosse team as it beat Presbyterian, 17-14, last Friday afternoon to cap off its four-game road trip.

The Red Flash (1-3) saw seven of its players score in the team's first win of the 2014 campaign. Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) also scored three goals and dished out three assists in the victory. The Blue Hose (1-2) was undefeated going into the contest. The six goals in a game by Larson is tied for second all-time in Saint Francis history.

Presbyterian scored the first goal of the contest four minutes into the game, but Conwell scored just one minute later off a pass from Blair Rosenburg to even the score at one.

PC scored again to take a one goal lead, but this time it was Rosenburg who scored to tie the game at two with 21:40 to play
in the opening period. Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) scored her first of many 27 seconds later and the Red Flash took its first lead of the game.

The Blue Hose evened the game again before Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) tallied her first goal of the season at the 16:57 mark. SFU extended its lead to as much as three in the first half as Larson found the back of the net for the third time and the Flash led 8-5 with 10 minutes to play. PC scored once more and trailed by two at halftime.

Presbyterian narrowed the margin to just one as it scored to open the second half. SFU quickly responded as Sabina Dorr (Baiting Hollow, N.Y./Riverhead), Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East), and Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) each scored in less than a minute to give the Flash an 11-7 advantage.

Saint Francis tallied a few more goals and took its largest lead of the game (14-8) with 18:06 to play. PC battled back to within four until Larson scored her sixth goal followed closely by Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) scoring off a free position shot and SFU led 16-10 at the 11:51 mark.

The Blue Hose scored four more goals down the stretch, but it was Dorr again who scored with 1:02 to go to put the game out of reach.

Saint Francis fired 33 shots in the game, the most since the 2012 season.

Saint Francis will travel to Delaware State for a 1 p.m. match-up next Saturday, March 22. SFU took down the Hornets in 2013, 20-2.
