BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (March 29, 2014) – The Saint Francis University women's lacrosse team held a three goal lead at halftime, but fell 11-8, to Davidson on Saturday afternoon.
Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) led the Red Flash (2-5) with three goals and two assists, while
Casey Burk (Moorestown, N.J./Delran) added two goals. Ann Fucigna totaled five goals for the Wildcats (3-5), including four in the second half.
Saint Francis scored the first four goals of the game and kept Davidson scoreless for nearly 20 minutes in the opening period. Blair Rosenburg scored the first goal of the afternoon off a feed from
Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) just over a minute in.
Conwell registered her first tally at the 23:22 mark, followed by a goal from
Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) nearly four minutes later. Burk then found the back of the net with the pass coming from
Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) with 11 minutes to play in the half.
The Wildcats ended its scoring drought at the 10:29 mark, but Schaaf responded with a goal this time off a pass from Conwell less than three minutes later. Davidson then scored two quick goals to get within two, then Conwell scored on a free position shot and SFU took a 6-3 lead into the locker room.
Davidson fired off back-to-back goals to open the second period and trailed by just one. Conwell scored her third of the day at the 26:23 mark to put the Red Flash back up by two (7-5).
The Wildcats then went on a run and scored four unanswered goals to take its first lead of the contest. Saint Francis got back within one when Burk scored again, assisted by Conwell. Davidson then scored two more goals down the stretch to pull away.
Kimberly Gronski (Corning, N.Y./Corning East High) and
Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) each posted three draw controls in the game for SFU. Freshman
Rachel Wallon (Waxhaw, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) posted a team-high three ground balls.
Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) registered eight saves in the contest.
Saint Francis has a short turnaround as its travels to Longwood, Virginia tomorrow for a neutral site game at Noon against Kennesaw State.
