Saint Francis Drops Decision on the Road at Winthrop

BOX SCORE ROCK HILL, S.C. (March 5, 2014) – The Saint Francis University women's lacrosse team fell on the road at Winthrop, 19-10, on Wednesday afternoon.

Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) led the Red Flash (0-3), as the senior posted three goals and two assists. Casey Burk (Moorestown, N.J./Delran) and Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) also each added two goals in the game. The Eagles (2-2) got most of its offensive production from two players, Shannon Gallagher who had seven goals, and Jenna Kasmarik who added five. 

Winthrop started the game with three straight goals in nine minutes. Casey Burk (Moorestown, N.J./Delran) then sparked a scoring run for Saint Francis as she scored her first goal of the season off a feed from Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) at the 20:51 mark.

It was then Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) who tallied her first goal of the season off a pass from Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) and SFU trailed 3-2 with 17:30 to play.

Conwell, Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East), and Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) then strung together three more consecutive goals for the Red Flash and it led 5-3 with less than 10 minutes to play in the opening period.

The Eagles scored to get within one, but then Sabina Dorr (Baiting Hollow, N.Y./Riverhead) converted off a free position shot to give SFU another two-goal lead, the freshman has now scored in back-to-back games. 

Winthrop scored four goals in a row over the final four minutes of the first half and took an 8-6 lead into the halftime break.

The Eagles scored two quick goals to open the second period, before Larson found the back of the net again. Winthrop went on to score three goals in two minutes to take a 13-7 lead with 21 minutes to play.

SFU responded as Conwell scored her second of the contest, but the Eagles tallied a goal shortly after and led 14-8. The Burk and Conwell connection converted on another goal with 12:38 to play to put the Red Flash within five.

Four more were put on the board for the Eagles, before Conwell struck again, this time off a free position shot. Winthrop scored the final goal of the game with less than two minutes to play to lead 19-10.

Saint Francis wraps up its four-game road trip on Friday as it faces Presbyterian at 4 p.m.
