Men's Volleyball Beats Rutgers-Newark, 3-1

BOX SCORE NEWARK, N.J. - Adam Barba (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) had six aces to lead the Saint Francis men's volleyball team to a three sets to one victory over Rutgers-Newark on Thursday night. The Red Flash won 20-25, 25-23, 25-20 and 25-21. The six aces ties him for third most in a single game by a Red Flash player. Jordan Varee was the last with six, coming at Princeton in April 2009.

The Flash lost game one, but responded with a comeback with in the second set. R-N led 12-6, but Mike DeLyser had two kills and Barba added two of those aces as the Flash pulled into a 16-14 lead. The Flash lost the lead again at 19-18, but the Flash scored five straight points on errors to take control of the set. Jeremy Gaston (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) registered a kill to end the game.

A 4-0 run late in game three put the Flash ahead, and kills from Barba, DeLyser and Nick Bennett (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) gave the Flash a 2-1 lead. In game four, the Flash overcame four-point deficits at two different points early in the set as Barba scored two consecutive aces to put the Flash ahead, 15-13. SFU would not trail again in the match. DeLyser led the team with 11 kills.

Barba added seven kills, tying him with Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) for second behind DeLyser. Ray Frazer (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) had a game-high 16 digs.

The Flash concludes its season tomorrow at NJIT. The game has been moved to 5:00 p.m.
